perks of reading a book

I just merely writing from a page in Michael Crichton's book: Congo. Always the brilliant in making a storyline (you all seen Jurassic Park), he always struck in the best of way.
Over the years, scientists had evolved a standard defense acceptable to the courts. Researches claimed that their experiments had the goal of bettering the health and welfare of mankind, a higher priority than animal welfare. They pointed out that no one objected to animals being used as beasts of burden or for agricultural work--a life of drudgery to which animals had been subjected for thousands of years. Using animals in scientific experiments simply extended the idea that animals were the servants of human enterprises.
In addition, animals were literally brutes. They had no self-awareness, no recognition of their existence in nature. This meant, in the words of philosopher George H. Mead, that "animals have no rights. We are at liberty to cut off their lives, there is no wrong committed when an animal's life is taken away. He has not lost anything..."
Many people were troubled by these views, but attempts to establish guidelines quickly ran into logical problems. The most obvious concerned the perceptions of animals further down the phylogenetic scale. Few researchers operated on dogs, cats, and other mammals without anesthesia, but what about annelid worms, crayfish, leeches, and squid? Ignoring these creatures was a form of "taxonomic discrimination". Yet if these animals deserved consideration, shouldn't it also be illegal to throw a live lobster into a pot of boiling water?
Doesn't it makes you wonder? Over the years, what change? Why do people started to care about animals? What else do you have in mind about this paragraph?

saving sharks fun facts

okay, so maybe some of you don't know that i love love love watching underwater documentary on NatGeo or Animal Planet or Discovery Channel. so this month is my favorite because this month is all about saving sharks month! so they all got everything about sharks. so i gather up some fun facts about great white sharks yesterday:
1. they will grow a new set of teeth every 20 days
2. they will lose about 30.000 tooth in their lives! (creepy if you think human does that too)
3. they could risen their body temperature from their surroundings so they could hunt in a very cold temperature water
4. they swim so quite, maybe on one dive or swim, they could be behind us and we didn't even know. i got goosebumps just thinking about it!

so there you have it! enjoy sharks month! just maybe take care of yourself when handling great white sharks. well.. if you ever encounter with them that is ;)

touchdown!

at laaaast! i got my hands on The Sartorialist book by Scott Schuman. although i missed the first one, i'm still very happy when i purchased this book. and.. because i couldn't resist buying an actual book in a bookstore (yes, bookstore is like a candy store to me), so i bought two books. so far, Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell caught my heart with all of different emotions.

my third company

so i thought i'm going to take a book with me. but Riant, as usual, always got a few surprises on his sleeves. so he got me this book. The Hungry Ocean. inspiring book about a woman who runs a fishing boat (which i really love about women being independent and being on top of her game).
a little bit tips for me: it's always good to bring a book or two with you on your journey. wherever in the world you might go. especially if there's cute notes inside ;)

must watch!

this movie makes me want to join an acapella group and be a nerd. haha! this movie is surprisingly hilarious (but most of it because Rebel makes it funny). i just love that Fat Amy is really confident with herself and she is funny as hell! Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow has an amazing voice! like it said in the title, must watch! i've been watching this movie for 3 times in 2 days! yeah, i can say that i'm a little addicted ;)

have you read the book? because i haven't but i think the book is as awesome as this movie. usually books are better than the movies, but i think this movie nailed it. Charlie has a pure and innocent heart despite his horrible past, Sam and Patrick is just genuinely great friends, always know how to have fun. and Emma Watson is surprisingly could get rid of her British accent. bravo for her! and she is just simply stunning in short hair. makes me want to cut my hair just like her and dress like her. just your typical high school story plot, but i don't know why, i was really mesmerize with this movie.

have you read today?

it's no secret anymore that technology right now sky rocketed in a minute. i mean, have you ever think that you would ever played in an iPad? or maybe you text someone with only your bare finger and only at a single touch? well i don't. when i was still a little girl, i thought Star Wars is the best thing and the coolest thing in the world because of all the props. but maybe someday and i don't know when would it be, the saber sword will exist (well not the toy one though).
but i'm getting ahead of myself. okay, my point is that technology makes us lazy even though it blow my mind and makes our life a lot easier. don't believe me? are you going to deny it? don't. just think about it. with the internet roam in our world, we make our assignments based on 'copy paste' methods. whereas in the old days, they will read lots and lots of books to answer a single question. but by reading all those books, the information will get to their brain rather than to 'copy paste'. the information won't get to us because we wouldn't even bother to read it. just think the job were done, and voila! good grades in your hand.
it's really rare for me to find a person that would actually read a book. not a magazine or a comic, but a book. it will always appear in my mind that why wouldn't people read a book? book could bring you to different places, makes you a different peoples by following the main characters in the book, makes you have adventures that you probably won't get in reality. i mean why would anyone says no to escaping the reality for a couple of pages in a book? that's just plain ridiculous. ;)
